ness talks about life

summer doings & golden rings

Autumn has arrived and with it the whisper of new starts. My studies pick up again very soon, I’m settling into a new city, and also into … marriage? Whaaaaaa-?

Friends, Romans, countryfolk … it’s been an eventful summer.

MARRIAGE

Yes, that’s the reason for the months-long silence on this blog – I’ve gotten myself married. This has meant a relocation of my small personal library, and incidentally a move from the Midlands city where I’d spent the majority of my life. Oh yes, it’s all change here. Plot twists abound.

I am not, in general, the MOST fond of weddings. We found ourselves having two. In two different countries. I’m delighted to tell you that we both survived and our families were included and honoured and that’s what mattered to us.

(More on this later.)

WRITING

I alarmed my tutor by implying that my Nan was buried in a back garden. In spite of this, my Creative Writing studies don’t seem to be going too tragically, however, I still haven’t fully committed to a long term project.

Enough is enough though. One or two writing projects are threatening to bring life back into my writing bones. My fingers are beginning to twitch.

(Partially because I’ve decided that it’s jolly well time that they did.)

READING

One of the first things I did upon moving was locate the local library. It’s bigger than my old one and I am delighted. Did I promptly incur a library fee? Yes, yes I did.

But there is a stack of library books by the sofa and I’ve read a few of them. I love libraries because it really means you pick up an eclectic mix of books. I do have some advice though; don’t read a book about Hitler’s last hours and wash it down with a nap. Your dreams will be rather odd.

I’ve read 42 books this year & I’m quite surprised that the number is that high. After last year’s efforts, I was expecting it to be a little lower. Excellent. Excellent. (It isn’t, after all, about the quantity, but the quality. Or just – reading pleasure, I suppose.)

I wonder how you’re getting along with your reading? As autumn settles in, I wish you peace & calm & well-being & many excellent books.

Happy reading!

I’ve been – I’ll happily and easily admit it – very blessed

  1. Congratulations!!

(I stumbled across your blog a few months ago, and your delightful way with words has given me not a few laughs, along with some cause for quiet reflection, and I wanted to say thank you for both. God bless!)
